Basch was originally written to be the game’s main character. However, the development team was afraid he wouldn’t resonate well with the series’ demographics due to the dramatic age difference between him and previous heroes, so he was replaced with Vaan and the story was rewritten around him at the last second.
for me, basch is still the main character. vaan is irrelevant to the story. i’m really upset square did this.
